"A social enterprise is a business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners."

Drawing on Scottish-based, urban case studies, this website guides you through some of the most basic issues, themes and practices of developing a Renfrewshire Social Economy.

Social economy organisations are currently being urged to look beyond year-on-year grant funding - and they themselves are demanding better alternatives to this difficult funding environment. Many organisations are now exploring new, unrestricted sources of income or grants available over longer periods of time.

increasing support is being offered to local communities to enable them to control and manage many of the services and amenities within their own neighbourhoods.

As the recession bites in all sectors, including the THIRD sector, I was
recently contacted by a PRIVATE business to assist them in widening
their traditional PRIVATE sector markets in their bespoke high value
manufactured goods, to find wider outlets and potential for sales. They had never thought of PUBLIC sector tendering as they had had, over 2008, quite full order books and difficulty in recruiting skilled workers to aid with the fulfillment and completion of their orders. However, circumstances are changing and they recognized this, so I did a bit of searching to aid them with potential leads and came up with the following weblinks, mostly leading to websites on which you can register-for free-your interest and contact details.
